Improve Telehealth with the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam

Poly Announces New Zoom Certified Appliances

Virtual care visits have skyrocketed in necessity — and popularity — since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Back then, doctors could be forgiven for poor audio, grainy video or other aesthetic concerns that deter a conversation.

With telehealth now the norm as healthcare patients opt for safety, convenience and a personal connection, clinicians must be able to deliver a professional online experience on par with an in-person encounter.

The Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam allows caregivers to effectively meet those needs without a big investment or hassle.

The camera delivers high-quality video with effortless setup. Simply plug it into any available USB port on a laptop, desktop or device running most versions of Windows, MacOS, Chrome or Android, and a user is ready to start webcasting.

Get Access to Clear Video Quality

Versatility is a hallmark of the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam, which works with a variety of videoconferencing and video recording software, including Cisco Webex, FaceTime, Skype and Zoom — no additional software required.

It can record in Full HD, 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. Even better, the C920 handles much of the video processing, so visuals look great for recipients even if an older computer or a less powerful device delivers them.

Sound quality is also key for a telehealth visit. The C920 has two microphones, with each one mounted on opposite sides of the lens to provide true stereo sound and support meetings with multiple clinicians in the same room.

The webcam doesn’t have speakers, however, so users must rely on the supporting device, standalone speakers or a headset to hear the other party.

Build a Personal Connection via Telehealth

For recipients, the difference in video and sound quality between the C920 and almost any other device in the same price range is remarkable. This model is among the most popular models used on the Doxy.me virtual care platform, according to Logitech.

Even after the pandemic’s curve is flattened, there’s no question telehealth will endure. Many patients may prefer to receive care in this way, including older adults and those living in rural areas.

Now and in the future, the C920 is a helpful tool to bridge a physical divide.

The Logitech C920 Webcam Has a Healthy Mind and Body

Having a great webcam is important, but so is integration into common collaborative platforms and the ability to easily adjust the camera to suit its environment. The Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam scores highly in all areas.

Quality is certainly king in telemedicine, but there are other factors that make the C920 a great choice — and it starts with the physical design of the unit.

Most webcams don’t really excel at design features. Many are mounted to unmovable platforms or are shaped into cute (but unhelpful) forms that look like little eggs. Thankfully, the physical package of the C920 lives up to the rest of its technical excellence.

Out of the box, the camera is packed down into a little black rectangle. A hinge along the back allows the frame to tilt up so that the HD lens can be pointed directly at a presenter. The hinge offers enough resistance so that the camera permanently stays where it’s placed until a user readjusts it.

The design also includes a small slot that allows the C920 to clip over the edge of a notebook computer screen. That way, a user can place it over the spot where the camera lens sits on most laptops for a standard videoconference setup.

Additionally, the C920 can be mounted to a tripod for a truly professional presentation. Logitech sells an optional tripod, but any camera stand with standard mounting hardware should work. I attached my test unit to a 35 mm camera tripod for supreme functionality.

Although Doxy.me is a popular platform for telemedicine, not every clinician will want to use it, and some patients may not be set up on that system. The C920 is designed to work with Skype, Google Hangouts and FaceTime for Mac, all of which worked great in my testing.

Just as clinicians weigh a range of details when making a diagnosis, they must consider every factor when choosing telecommunications gear. For the C920, that includes a brilliant technical performance, an innovative physical design and the ability to operate in almost any collaborative environment.
